Google Cloud SQL for MySQL connector details

The Google Cloud SQL for MySQL capture connector in Estuary uses MySQL’s binary log (binlog) to capture database changes through Change Data Capture (CDC). By default, it first backfills the current contents of your selected tables, then continuously captures new changes from the binlog to keep downstream data up to date.

  • Binary log-based CDC for continuously capturing changes from Google Cloud SQL for MySQL
  • Initial table backfills followed by ongoing change capture, with the option to skip backfills for selected tables
  • Automatic table discovery across databases and schemas the connector is authorized to access
  • Automatic handling of most schema changes, including adding, dropping, renaming, and changing column types
  • Read replica support when binary logging and the required replication settings are enabled
  • Password or Google Cloud IAM authentication, with IAM connections using TLS

The connector requires row-based binary logging (binlog_format=ROW) and sufficient binlog retention to ensure changes remain available during interruptions or recovery.
